Wild West Quest, Chapter One

Chapter One

Arthur lived in the Sonoran Desert. His parents were to poor to look after him when he was born, so they gave him to an orphanage, hoping that when they were older they could come back and keep him. Now that he was thirteen, and old enough to take care of himself, the orphanage wouldn't keep him, so he had to live in the desert. Luckily, he had done a few jobs for the people who ran the orphanage, and had eared enough money to buy a pocketknife, which he used to hunt small animals, such as prairie dogs and cottontail rabbits, until he had enough skins to make a small tent next to a river, which was only about a mile away from a small town. After that, he sometimes traded animal skins and meat for things such as a rifle, flint and steel, bullets, gunpowder and an axe. He even tamed a coyote and a prairie falcon, a close relative of the peregrine falcon. But one afternoon, as he was trading in the village, he saw a man stealing a valuable diamond necklace. When he told the owner of the shop, he said Arthur was lying, and that he had stolen the necklace, and the only way he would believe him was if he brought the necklace back. So, bringing his rifle, axe, bullets, gunpowder and flint and steel, his coyote, who he had named Tracker, and his prairie falcon, who he had named Flash, Arthur set of, Tracker leading the way.

  1. WOW! Arthur is an accomplished hunter! Taming a coyote and a prairie falcon sounds like a very difficult job! Arthur sounds like a very patient man, as well. He is very meticulous at what he does. I hope that he, Tracker, and Flash can find the thief! Love, Grandma

Galapagos Adventure, Introduction

Peter was going on a trip to the Galapagos islands (a group of islands about 2,600 miles away from America, famous for having many animals on it that only live there, such as the Galapagos tortoise and the Marine iguana). One night, he woke up in the midde of a storm, with his boat sinking! The boat didn't have any lifeboats, so Peter grabbed a gun, bullets, gunpowder and a bag of corn, threw a barrel overboard, dived in after it, and swam to one of the Galapagos islands that was nearby, resting on the barrel when he was tired. Unluckily, it was uninhabited (nobody lived on it), but he at least survived the storm. Two and a half years later, he lived in a large cave, had a pet Galapagos hawk (a large, brown hawk breed. The main predator of the Galapagos islands) called Flyer and owned a large cornfield. Galapagos Hawk

Going Sailing

Last holiday my family & I went sailing. First we got on a small boat, and then sailed to a bigger one, which we sailed on for about an hour. I got a weird feeling that I sometimes get on airplanes when the boat went over the waves. I hope we go again sometime!
